In a recent article in Transport Times – Director of Midlands Connect Maria Machancoses calls upon the UK’s regions to unite behind HS2 and ensure the project becomes a reality in its entirety – all the way to Manchester and Leeds.
Citing the record levels of inward investment to the West Midlands, including the £724 million Curzon investment plan, which will create 36,000 new jobs and develop 141 hectares of land surrounding the city’s new HS2 terminus and the economic development opportunity around Interchange station that HS2’s arrival in Birmingham has already attracted, she calls upon industry leaders to continue to make the case for Phase 2 , both for the urgently needed additional capacity, but also the the positive economic and social impacts that the HS2 project will bring.
