Greengauge 21 has contributed to a significant new report by the UK2070 Commission looking at the future of the rail network in North West England.
The report benefits from the expertise of North West-based authors Ian Wray and David Thrower and offers suggestions on how rail investment should be directed towards achieving economic growth opportunities across the region.
Report co-author Jim Steer says:
“We have had a decade of aspiration centred on major new rail lines for the North West, but we are no closer to implementation than a decade ago. This report shines a light on the inter-connected nature of the North West’s economic opportunities. It then sets out cost effective ways to address the limitations of the existing rail network, ways to overcome constraints that frustrate plans for service improvement, and which today leave daily train service performance below par.”
